Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
DropLink is an app for sharing files. You pick files on your device and get a link and a short code; the recipient downloads them in a web browser. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the app and this website.
2. No account required
You do not create an account or give us your name, email or phone number to use DropLink. We do not build user profiles.
3. Your files
- Same network (LAN): when both devices are on the same network, files are sent directly from one device to the other. They do not pass through our servers.
- Across networks: when the devices are on different networks, the transfer is carried over an encrypted relay tunnel. The relay only forwards the data while the transfer is happening - it does not keep a copy, and the file contents are not stored on our servers.
- We do not scan, index, analyze or sell your files or their contents.
4. Share links
Each share uses a randomly generated 8-character short code drawn from an unambiguous alphabet (it intentionally omits the look-alike characters 0, O, o, 1, I and l). Download links are signed and become unavailable the moment you stop sharing or close the app.
5. Information we process
- Connection data: to set up a transfer, our relay temporarily handles technical information such as the share code and the network address of the connection. This is used only to route the transfer and is not used to track you.
- Diagnostics: servers may keep short-lived operational logs (for example, error and availability information) to keep the service running. These are not used to identify you and are rotated regularly.
- Website analytics: idroplink.com (this website) uses Google Analytics to collect anonymous aggregate traffic statistics (page views, browser type, country). No personally identifiable information is collected. You can opt out via browser extensions or DNT signals.
- No third-party advertising or analytics SDKs are bundled in the app.
6. Data stored locally on your device
To allow a share session to resume after the app is killed by the system, DropLink stores a small amount of transient state in the device's system-managed app preferences (UserDefaults on iOS, SharedPreferences on Android) — for example, the active share code and the file list metadata. This data is only accessible to the app itself, is never uploaded, and is removed when you uninstall the app. The app's iOS PrivacyInfo manifest declares this as NSPrivacyAccessedAPICategoryUserDefaults with reason CA92.1.
7. App permissions
- Photos / media / files: so you can choose the items you want to send. Access is used only for files you select.
- Notifications: to show transfer progress and keep an active transfer running.
- Local network (iOS): when both devices are on the same WiFi, the app sets up a direct LAN connection so files do not need to travel over the public internet.
- Permissions are requested when a feature needs them, not all at once on first launch.
8. Children
DropLink is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
